All of Iowa, Flooding

A Few Late Night Notes

A few showers are in eastern Nebraska a few hours from reaching the Missouri River Valley. They are not severe and aren’t expected to be. It should remain relatively quiet the rest of the night.

Flooding continues in Iowa. The Mississippi River at all locations in Iowa and neighboring Illinois north of Keokuk have fallen below flood stage. The Iowa River continues to be above flood stage in Iowa City and Lone Tree. They should continue to fall and should fall below flood stage by Monday or Tuesday. The Des Moines River continues to Flood at Tracy and Ottumwa and St Francisville MO. The river here will take a little longer to go down. Just like the Iowa River, The Des Moines River levels are effected by Lake Red Rock which like the Coralville reservoir is controlled by the amount of water let out of the lake. So as the levels of the lake go down they can allow less and less water out thus the river levels take longer to drop there.

Other rivers have fallen several feet below flood stage, an example would be the Cedar River at Cedar Rapids, which has fallen to 6.65 feet, flood stage being 12 feet. It peaked at 31.12 on the 13th of June.
